Sheffield Eagles congratulated at Sheffield Cathedral

The event, hosted by Sheffield Sports Chaplaincy is in its 3rd annual year and celebrates all that is good in sport and its contribution to our lives.
The Championship Trophy was given pride of place at the front of the Cathedral throughout the proceedings with Eagles First Team Chaplain Baz Gascoyne speaking to those gathered about how much the victory in the Grand Final meant to everyone at the Club.
Speaking about the evening, Eagles General Manager Simon Proctor said, “It was great to be invited to the event and be able to show the trophy to a complete new audience, in the brilliant surroundings of Sheffield Cathedral was great.”
“I’d like to thank Baz (Gascoyne) on speaking on behalf of the club, ensuring everyone in attendance knew how proud everyone related to the club is about the success and how we aim to continue working hard as we strive for a future in the Super League.”
In attendance was ex-professional footballer and current Sheffield Wednesday FC manager Dave Jones who spoke about his past experiences in sport, both positive and negative and also the feel good factor in sport.
Alongside him, fresh from the 2012 Olympic Games in London was Kenny Barton, Performance Manager for GB Volleyball who spoke about the trials and tribulations of preparing the GB Volleyball team for the games from small beginnings when London won the bid to host the Olympics.
Pete Allen, Lead Chaplain of Sheffield Sports Chaplaincy who organised the event said, “I’d like to thank the Eagles for coming down and showing off their trophy to everyone, it was an enjoyable evening and I was surprised, along with many others who tried to lift it, how much the trophy weighed!”
