Grand Final duo look ahead
Head coaches Ian Rooney and Tony Spence are having a busy week as they prepare their sides for Sunday’s Hattons Solicitors National Conference League Grand Final decider.
Wath Brow Hornets boss Rooney will take his side down to Widnes on the morning of the game, whilst his Hull-based rival will have the luxury of stopping over in the local area the night before.
“We’re going down there on the morning of the game. Financially, for a village club, staying over in Widnes would have added around £1,000 to an already sizeable bill, said Rooney.
“We’ve travelled a long way from home all season and it hasn’t stopped us finishing top so it shouldn’t alter anything.
As for the game itself the Cumbrian reckons his young side will be tested.
“We go into the final as underdogs and, knowing Tony, he’s bound to be confident.
“Myton are big, much bigger than us. We’ll have to contend with that or it could become a long afternoon.
“I’m not without confidence, but I’m certainly not overconfident either. Myton are excellent at what they so and we’ve got a huge amount of respect for them.”
Warriors chief Spence is also counting down the days and is in a bullish mood ahead of the showdown.
““I understand Ian (Rooney) expected to meet Siddal in the final. That provides my team-talk!
“We have huge respect for Wath Brow; they an excellent team, but we'll be more than ready come kick off.
“We’ve got the guns to cause any team big problems. There is quality in my 17 from left to right, and top to bottom.
