JJB calls for patriotic support

Jamie Jones-Buchanan is calling on all Rugby League fans and players to show their support for England when they face France in the final of the Autumn International Series at Salford City Stadium on Sunday (5.00pm).

Jamie Jones-Buchanan is calling on all Rugby League fans and players to show their support for England when they face France in the final of the Autumn International Series at Salford City Stadium on Sunday (5.00pm).

Jones-Buchanan played another important role in England’s impressive victory over France at a packed Craven Park, Hull, last Saturday and with this weekend’s game marking the 40th anniversary of Great Britain’s victory in the 1972 Rugby League World Cup, the Rhinos star is relishing the chance to end the season with victory in front of another bumper crowd.

“Sunday is a special day for us and we want to win the tournament with an unbeaten record,” said Jones-Buchanan.

“Tournaments of this nature are important in our development and when you have a carrot like the World Cup to get you out of bed on a morning, for us it is all about steady progress and building momentum for next year.

“France will be smarting and we can expect them to improve on last week. We certainly know we are capable of better and there has been a desire all week to make sure we are more disciplined in our game and be more clinical with the ball.

“I also found out that Sunday is 40 years to the day since a team from these shores last won the World Cup. That group of men are seen as heroes and legends in the game and we now want to emulate what they achieved when the opportunity comes our way next year.”

Ahead of next year’s World Cup Jones-Buchanan has been quick to praise the spirit of everyone involved within the England set-up and he believes that the systems developed by coach Steve McNamara could prove crucial this time next year.

“I’ve been lucky to have played in a few representative squads in my time but this is by far the most united,” he said.

“We enjoy working together and socialising as a group and there are no cliques.

“That kind of spirit is important during tough competitions and there is a club mentality that has been instilled by the coach, but we all have to take responsibility for making it happen and for pulling together this time next year.”

Tickets for the final of the 2012 Autumn International Series cost just £12 for adults and £6 for concessions and can be purchased by calling 0844 856 1113 or by visiting www.rugbyleaguetickets.co.uk
