Featherstone Rovers have signed Wakefield Trinity Wildcats’ former Bradford Bulls prop Matt James on a two-year contract.

Featherstone Rovers have signed Wakefield Trinity Wildcats’ former Bradford Bulls prop Matt James on a two-year contract.

The 25-year-old Wales international is a direct replacement for Rovers captain Stuart Dickens, who retired at the end of the season to join the coaching staff at Wakefield.

Featherstone coach Daryl Powell said: “Having lost Stuart Dickens to retirement, our priority signing was a prop forward to replace him.

“We have managed to sign a player of undoubted quality who I am positive will become a fans favourite with his all-action style of play.”

James still had a year left on his contract with the Wildcats but made only four substitute appearances in Super League this year.

Wakefield chief executive James Elston said: “We couldn’t guarantee Matt first-team rugby on a regular basis in 2013 and, at this stage of his career, he understandably wants to be playing week in, week out.

“We wish him all the best at Featherstone.”
