Dewsbury Rams announce pre-season plans
Dewsbury Rams have confirmed dates for three friendlies which will take place ahead of the 2013 Northern Rail Cup and Championship campaigns.
The Rams will travel to Mount Pleasant on Boxing Day for the annual Boxing Day Derby against Batley Bulldogs.
Warren Jowitt's men made it an unhappy first game in charge for Bulldogs coach John Kear in 2011, and the former Challenge Cup winner, who coached current Rams boss Glenn Morrison at Wakefield in 2010 and 2011, will undoubtedly be out for revenge.
Boxing Day provides supporters with a first opportunity to see the new-look Rams squad in action and, as gate money generated on the day is shared equally between the two clubs, your support will help provide a boost to both clubs' finances ahead of the 2013 season.
The clash with the Bulldogs is followed by the visit of Halifax to the Tetley's Stadium on Sunday January 6.
Halifax triumphed on their last visit to Dewsbury in June of this year, but the hosts emerged from the contest with great credit, having pushed their title-chasing opponents all the way in a pulsating encounter.
Halifax remain one of the strongest teams in the Championship as the new season edges closer and this latest clash should provide a useful workout for Morrison's exciting new squad.
The Rams round-off their pre-season programme of fixtures a week later with the traditional pre-season fixture against Bradford Bulls at the Tetley's Stadium.
As has been the case in the past, Dewsbury will keep 100% of gate money generated on the day, while on the field another tough work-out for the Rams is expected.
The Bulls often utilise this fixture to hand debuts to new recruits, and in 2007 it was Rams boss Morrison who lined-up against the team he would one day go on to coach for his first ever game on British soil.
