Sheffield unites to pay lip service to men's health awareness campaign

Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield Eagles are joining forces this November to help raise money and awareness for Movember, the men’s health charity.

Sheffield Hallam University Rugby League team which includes members from Sheffield Eagles Academy and reserves team take on Edge Hill University in the Movember Varsity Fixture on Wednesday November 21 at Abbeydale Sports Club, kick off 2.00pm.

Members from both teams will be growing moustaches throughout November in the run up to the game with a LIVE shave off due to take place after the game.

Sheffield Eagles community manager, Adam Hughes is also the coach of the Sheffield Hallam Rugby League Team and was the catalyst behind the initiative.

Speaking of the partnership, he said: “I’ve personally been involved in Movember for the past two years and think that men’s health doesn’t get as much support as it should.

“When Movember approached us about taking part we were delighted to become involved with such a worthy charity.

“The Eagles are looking to develop links with Sheffield Hallam at all levels from players to interns and volunteers and this is a perfect opportunity to show our links and how it continues to strengthen and grow.”

Fresh from their Grand Final win over Featherstone, Eagles first team players Quentin Laulu Togagae and Misi Taulapapa will be in attendance to hand out awards to the best ‘Mo’s’ grown.

Hallam Sports Officer Josh Saydraouten said of the Movember fixture: “It’s great to be working so closely with one of our partner clubs alongside our Rugby League club for a great cause such as Movember.

“I am really encouraged by the level of enthusiasm and commitment Sheffield Eagles have had throughout this whole process in relation to working with Hallam Union but more importantly helping to raise awareness of testicular and prostate cancer in men around the world.”

Movember UK country manager Sarah Coghlan said: “Movember is a grass roots movement led by its communities and the support from university sports team is vital to the success of the campaign.

“We’re looking forward to seeing moustaches on the pitch, all in the name of men’s health.”

Entry to the game is FREE for everyone so come down and cheer on Hallam Rugby League in what should be a great afternoon of sport in aid of Movember.
