Sheffield City Council is to host a Civic Reception for Sheffield Eagles Rugby League Club to celebrate their recent triumph in winning the Championship Grand Final.

The Eagles players along with the Championship Trophy and staff and directors from the club will be hosted at Sheffield Town Hall this coming Tuesday 23rd October at 7.30pm.

Speaking of the reception, Eagles Chairman Ian Swire said, “It’s fantastic that the City of Sheffield is honouring the Eagles by hosting a civic reception to recognise their recent Championship Grand Final victory.”

“Sheffield is a city dominated by its two football clubs but it rightly claims to be the city of sport and earlier this year this was amply demonstrated by Jessica Ennis’s incredible display at the Olympics.”

“Now we are able to add to Sheffield’s sporting success in 2012 with city’s rugby league team defeating the best teams in its competition to earn the coveted title of Champions.”

The Lord Mayor of Sheffield John Campbell added, "It’s a fantastic achievement for rugby league in the city as a whole and I am really pleased to be able to welcome the players and coaching staff to the Town Hall to congratulate them on their success.”

“I hope they can continue to build upon this sporting accolade in the seasons ahead. I'm hoping to see them grow from strength to strength and bringing Super League to Sheffield in the future. Well done to all involved.”
