Wigan clear-out continues

Wigan Warriors have announced the departure of centre Stefan Marsh and stand-off Joe Mellor, along with reserve winger Ryan King.

Wigan Warriors have announced the departure of centre Stefan Marsh and stand-off Joe Mellor, who spent most of the 2012 season on loan at Widnes Vikings.

The pair were both out of contract, along with reserve winger Ryan King, who has also been released after just one Stobart Super League appearance.

Wigan coach Shaun Wane said: “It has been decided not to renew these players’ contracts and to allow them to pursue their rugby league careers elsewhere.

“Wigan has a very strong squad with a number of other up-and-coming young players who are also challenging for places in the first team for next season and it is felt that the opportunities for these three may be somewhat limited as a result.”

The Warriors are undergoing something of a clear-out. Thomas Leuluai, Brett Finch and Jeff Lima are all returning down under, George Carmont has retired, Stuart Fielden has been released and reserve full-back Matty Russell is joining the Gold Coast Titans.
