Rugby League Cares is delighted to announce its commitment to the on-going work of the Steve Prescott Foundation and will be supporting their forthcoming challenge, the ‘Race to the Grand Final’.

Since the Steve Prescott Foundation’s (SPF) formation in 2007, it has donated over £350,000 between its beneficiary charities’, the RFL Benevolent Fund and The Christie cancer centre.

The SPF is spear-headed by ex-rugby league player Steve Prescott MBE who is currently fighting a terminal stomach cancer named Pseudomyxoma Peritonei.

Following his diagnosis in 2006 Steve was overwhelmed by the support he received from the rugby league community.

He subsequently set up the Foundation to raise funds for the two charities close to his heart and to inspire people to face adversity head on. Despite originally being given just six months to live, Steve is still fighting the disease today and still leads all of the inspirational fundraising challenges they have become renowned for.

Rugby League Cares will proactively assist the Steve Prescott Foundation in promoting their events. They will also provide additional support with the coordination and delivery of challenges and include a dedicated area on SPF charity to the Cares website.

Rugby League Cares General Manager Chris Rostron said: “Rugby League Cares is delighted to support the Steve Prescott Foundation.

“Steve’s an iconic figure in Rugby League, his work fund raising on behalf of two great causes is absolutely amazing and an inspiration to many in and outside of the sport.

“Rugby League Cares will do whatever we can to help make the Foundation’s challenges a success and we very much look forward to working with Steve and the team to assist their efforts.”

Steve Prescott MBE said: “Rugby League Cares is a fantastic initiative that brings together the rugby league family!

“The SPF will continue to donate all monies raised to the RFL Benevolent Fund and will fully get behind the RL Cares concept. We are extremely excited at the prospect of working with RL Cares and are honoured to be part of the team that takes the RL Community to the next level."

The SPF’s next challenge is the ‘Race to the Grand Final’ which is supported by Engage Mutual, former Super League title sponsor and long standing supporter of both the RFL Benevolent Fund and the Steve Prescott Foundation.

Tina Jessop, Engage Mutual Head of Brand said: “We have worked with the RFL Benevolent Fund for number of years as well as being the main sponsor of the Steve Prescott Foundation, so it’s fantastic to see both organisations working in partnership.

“We’re very excited to be involved in the unique ‘quadrathon’ challenge to Old Trafford and look forward to it being a great success.”
