Former Wigan Warriors centre Martin Aspinwall has joined Championship club Leigh Centurions on a 12-month contract after being released by Hull FC.

The 30-year-old began his career with his home-town club Wigan in 2001 before going on to play for Huddersfield Giants, where he made the switch to the second row, Castleford Tigers and Hull.

Centurions coach Paul Rowley said: “Martin is a fantastic acquisition to an already strong squad.

“He can cover several positions and has a wealth of top-flight experience. He is a Wigan lad and excited at the opportunity of helping Leigh in our push for Super League.”

Leigh, who fell one game short of the Grand Final, have parted company with former Hull KR forward Tommy Gallagher and ex-St Helens and Salford City Reds winger Dean McGilvray.
