Holdsworth joins Hull

Hull FC have confirmed the signing of Salford City Reds’ Australian stand-off Daniel Holdsworth on a two-year contract.

Hull FC have confirmed the signing of Salford City Reds’ Australian stand-off Daniel Holdsworth on a two-year contract.

The Black and Whites say they fought off interest from several Stobart Super League and NRL clubs to capture the 28-year-old former St George Illawarra and Canterbury Bulldogs player, who was man of the match in the Exiles’ win over England in July.

“Daniel is a quality player,” Hull coach Peter Gentle said. “He has one of the best general kicking games in the competition and he’s going to add another dimension to our side in that respect.

“He’s going to improve as a player and he’s going to improve us as a team so it’s a win-win situation. He’s an accomplished player. He’s over here and settled and he’s not a risky signing.”

Holdsworth becomes Hull’s third confirmed signing for next season following the acquisition of England forward Gareth Ellis and Castleford Tigers centre Joe Arundel, and is unlikely to be the last with Castleford half-back Rangi Chase, Bradford Bulls winger Jason Crookes and Hull KR forward Ben Galea all linked with moves to the KC Stadium.

Holdsworth, who has been in Super League for the last three seasons, played his last match for Salford in their defeat by Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on Saturday.

“It’s a big move to a bigger club and a prestigious club like Hull FC but I’m looking forward to it and it’s very exciting,” Holdsworth said.

“Hull FC are pretty much always in the eight and they play finals footy and that is what I want as a professional.”
