The RFL join Pitch Maintenance Training Group
The RFL has linked up with other National Sports Governing Bodies including the FA, RFU and ECB to work together on the newly-established Pitch Maintenance Training Group.
The aim of the working group is to develop training for groundspeople in sport and the group is co-ordinated by Sport England and supported by the Institute of Groundsmanship.
RFL Director of Participation David Gent said: “We’re delighted to be part of this group, it’s important that we continue to work towards improving Rugby League pitches to support clubs and increase participation.
“One of the biggest benefits of switching the playing season to March to November is the improvement in pitches; you can already see the difference and the work with this group will only improve matters.
“Most Rugby League groundspeople are volunteers so if we can help with training courses I’m sure this will prove hugely beneficial to the sport.”
Charles Johnston, Sport England Property Director said: “Along with the RFL we see good management and improvement of natural turf pitches as essential in delivering a quality participation experience at a local level.
“The Pitch Maintenance Training Group will identify the gaps in training provision and ensure the right support is available to develop the skills and confidence of volunteers who play an invaluable role in supporting their clubs and sport to deliver.”
