Aiton extends Wildcats stay

Hooker Paul Aiton has committed himself to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats by signing a two-year contract extension.

Hooker Paul Aiton has committed himself to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats by signing a two-year contract extension.

The Papua New Guinea captain initially joined the Stobart Super League outfit on a two-year deal at the start of this season from Cronulla Sharks.

Such has been the 27-year-old’s form, the Wildcats have decided to guarantee his future through to the end of 2015.

Aiton said: “It wasn’t a deal just to sign so I had something. A lot of thought did go into it.

“I wanted to make sure I was in a team that can compete, and I really think we can.”

Whether Aiton plays again this season hangs in the balance due to a facial injury sustained after he was attacked last month while on holiday.

Speaking to the Wildcats website, Aiton added: “I’ve really enjoyed my year. I came here to enjoy my footy, and I certainly have.

“I’m devastated about missing the back end of the season because I still feel I can offer a little bit more to the club and the boys.

“Right now I know we’ve still got the semis to think about, but for me I just want to get all my niggles sorted out because I want a really big year next year.”
