Volunteers from Rylands Sharks delivered a very successful “engage with your club” event as they scraped, sanded, tiled, grouted and painted to transform their showering facilities and changing rooms.

Rylands Sharks have a very successful Junior Section with Under-5s and Under-6s Cubs and 15 Youth and Junior teams all utilizing the club’s Gorsey Lane base.

Recognising the need to address the inevitable “wear and tear” caused by the high levels of use, committee members, parents and young players worked tirelessly side by side.

Club secretary, Lindsay Bissett declared: “Today’s event has certainly encouraged us to hold similar activities in the future.

“Our intention was to upgrade the changing rooms and showers, which, while they are basically sound, have become a little tired over time. We actually started the work a couple of weeks ago so today we were determined to complete it.

“The “engage with your club programme” has given us the incentive to get the facilities up to standard and we are very pleased with the results.”

Sam Clarke of Rylands U17s was also delighted with the improvements saying: “Better changing rooms, better showers and everything is cleaner. I can’t wait for the next game.”

80 community rugby league clubs from England, Scotland and Wales have signed up to hold an ‘engage with your club’ event this year.
