Ambler aiming for Northern Rail Cup glory
#NRCupfinal
Halifax star Luke Ambler is hoping for hometown glory in his first ever professional Rugby League final when his side take on Featherstone Rovers in the climax of the 2012 Northern Rail Cup at Bloomfield Road, Blackpool on Sunday July 29 (3.00pm)
Ambler, who has previously played for Leeds Rhinos and London Broncos, is enjoying playing for his local club as well as joining them off the field as business development manager.
The young prop is now relishing the chance to get his hands on the Northern Rail silverware.
“This will be my first ever professional final, I can’t wait,” said Ambler. “I get goosebumps just thinking about it.
“Being from Halifax makes it extra special for me and I hope we can do the fans proud on Sunday. Their support is overwhelming.
“I have started a new role at the club as business development manager and that gives me the chance to talk to fans and future sponsors and everyone I speak to is looking forward to the final at Blackpool hoping that we can bring the trophy back to The Shay.”
Ambler and his team-mates will be focussing on the task in hand against Featherstone Rovers rather than looking back to last year’s final-minute defeat by Leigh Centurions in the Northern Rail Cup final.
“There is a lot of new personnel at the club this year with a new coach in Karl (Harrison) and new players so I don’t think last year’s final will be on too many minds going in to the game,” added Ambler.
“It’s more important to focus on Featherstone and what we can do to win the game. Featherstone are a great side and very controlled so we know it will be no mean feat.
“On a personal note I’m enjoying playing more now than ever before and that’s thanks to Karl and the club for giving me a chance. I definitely feel like I’ve improved as a player whilst being at Halifax and to win the Northern Rail Cup on Sunday would be an amazing feeling.”
The Northern Rail Cup Final will be played on Sunday July 29 at Bloomfield Road, Blackpool. Tickets cost from just from just £14 for adults, and £8 for concession and are available by calling 0844 856 1113 or by visiting www.rugbyleaguetickets.co.uk
