Hunslet Hawks were last week invited to be part of sporting topic that all classes at Mount School in Wakefield took part in as we build up towards this years Olympic Games in London.

Each Class took part in different sports and Hunslet Hawks were invited to do a morning of Rugby League activities with Key Stage 1 class. Many of the Children had seen Rugby on TV but only one child had engaged in the sport actively before.

It was a first time experience for the rest of the class and all thoroughly enjoyed learning some core skills and playing some fun games incorporating skills such as; Evasion, Communication, Teamwork, Passing, Catching and Try Scoring with the Hunslet Coach Barry Eaton who said:

“It was very exciting to come along and deliver a rugby skills session to the Key Stage 1 class and see how quickly they grasped the fundamental core skill element of Rugby League at such a young age.

"Hopefully we have wetted the appetite of these youngsters to get involved in the sport either as participants or supporters of the game”.

Nicola Ansell Key stage 1 class teacher said:

“The Children really enjoyed the experience of taking part in their first ever Rugby League Session as part of our sporting topic and we have received positive feedback from Parents and Carers when the Children have gone home and told them about their Rugby experience and we would like to thank Hunslet Hawks for being able to deliver this to our Class”.
