Castleford Panthers were crowned Champion of Champions across all three age groups in the annual girl’s festival at Sutton Park, Leigh on Saturday.

Echoes of “who to be a panther” resounded throughout the ground as the girls received their trophies from the England Women’s team.  The internationals were in attendance giving their support and mentoring each of the 11 representatives from across the country.

In the Under-16s competition, the Panthers retained their title after hosting the event last year. They ran in 12 tries against Cramlington Rockets from the northeast before beating rivals Rochdale Cobras 6-2 to take the title.

On the Under-14s pitch, Castleford defeated the teams of Sunderland Scorpions and West Cumbria & Barrow by 4-1 score lines respectively.

The Panthers combined with players from Stanningley to remain undefeated through four games of 15 minutes in a spirited Under-12s competition. Riana Scott from St. Helens was named player of that tournament along with Panthers’ Katie Innis and Grace Winter in the Under-14s and Under-16s categories.
