The eight contenders for the title of 2012 Rugby League 9s champions have been confirmed following another action-packed round of  festivals with the last five clubs booking their place in next Tuesday’s Grand Final at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.

Hull Kingston Rovers, Featherstone Rovers, Warrington Wolves, London Broncos and Cumbria have all secured a trip to Headingley alongside Leeds Rhinos, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Wigan Warriors, who all put in powerful finishes despite having reached the Grand Final with a week to spare.

Wigan Warriors will go into the Grand Final as the only unbeaten team in the competition with 12 wins from 12 games and will start as favourites in what promises to be a memorable night of top class 9s action.

In front of a partisan home crowd, Wigan defeated Warrington Wolves, Cumbria and St Helens on Tuesday evening with a spectacular display of four tries and three powerplay tries from England Academy player Joe Burgess.

Home advantage also seemed to help Wakefield secure three victories against Leeds, Huddersfield Giants and Hull FC to overtake the Rhinos at the top of the East Table at the end of the group stages.

It was a fierce fight between Cumbria and St Helens for the last remaining place from the West league and it came down to the match between the two teams with Cumbria managing to overtake Saints in the table following a 30-24 victory. Also qualifying from the West League are Warrington and London.

Also producing an impressive performance last night were Rugby League 9s debutants, the University of Gloucester All Golds, who beat Salford City Reds and London and draw against a third Super League club, Widnes Vikings.
