SLTV: Kirmond handed Wakefield captaincy
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have confirmed Danny Kirmond as their new full-time captain after Steve Southern stepped down from the role.
Australian forward Southern has had a stop-start time with his career in England since moving from Newcastle in the winter, and has asked to be relieved of the armband to concentrate on his game.
As a result, coach Richard Agar has given 26-year-old forward Kirmond the job on a permanent basis, with the former Huddersfield Giants man having previously served as Southern's deputy.
“It is something I am really proud of and it’s a massive honour to captain your hometown club,” Kirmond said.
“It is not something that I have really looked at doing before but being given the opportunity is a huge accolade for myself."
Full-back Richard Mathers has been made vice-captain.
