Carnegie Champion Schools Year 11 Boys Final

St. Benedict’s 14
Sirius Academy clinched a dramatic late victory over St. Benedict’s to be crowned the Year 11 Carnegie Champion Schools winners.
Stand off Jordan Abdull kicked the winning points with the last kick of the match after the match officials awarded a last minute penalty in favour of Sirius for a knock on.
St. Benedict’s raced into a 12 – 0 lead in the first half with successive tries before Sirius replied through Lewis Hackett who grounded the ball in the corner with Jordan Abdull converting, to half the Cumbrian’s lead.
The Hull based Academy added a further two tries in the second half with scrum half Josh Wood and man of the match Abdull touching down ball either side of Jordan Burns’ penalty kick for St Benedict’s.
With the scores level with seconds remaining it seemed the trophy would be shared, however Abdull remained calm and focused to kick the winning penalty which sent all the St. Benedict’s players crashing to the floor.
In the aftermath of the performance Abdull said: “I was extremely proud of my performance tonight, but the credit has to lie more with the team than just myself.
“I had too many thoughts in my head as I was preparing myself for that vital penalty kick. I was thinking mainly of the glory of being a hero rather than the villain.”
