Carnegie Champion Schools Semi-Final
The second Year 11 National Carnegie Champions Schools semi-final saw Brooksbank face St Benedicts, both teams knowing tough competitors Sirius awaited them in the Finals.
The first half was a close, tense affair with both teams battling hard for field position. Brooksbank were first on the score sheet after only 2 minutes when scrum-half Nick Rawsthorne went in under the posts following a superb break down the left wing from Zac Thompson.
It wasn’t long before St Benedicts scored their first points of the game when Stand-off Dan Hodgeson scored under the post after a sequence of missed tackles by Brooksbank. Both teams tightened up their defence and Brooksbank managed to secure an 18-12 lead at half time.
An impressive interception and touch down by Nick Rawsthorne gave him his second try of the match and opened the second half scoring. Brooksbank’s lead was short lived as an impressive fight back from St Benedicts showed their class with two superb tries, Dominic Wear converting both to level the scores.
Both teams traded tries before St Benedicts ran away with an impressive victory as Jack Moore, Greg Howland and Jordan little all crossed the try line. Final Score Brooksbank 28 St Benedicks 46.
St Benedicts will meet Sirius in the National Final of the Year 11 Boys Carnegie Champion schools tournament on Wednesday May 9th at Odsal Stadium.
