Champion Schools Year 11 Semi-Final

2012 saw Oulton Raiders host the Year 11 Carnegie Champion School National Semi – Finals. With four teams battling through the local and regional stages of the competition the Semi-finals without fail promised and showed some strongly contested games.
The first Semi-final saw Sirius Academy take on Honley High. A superb break by Honley early in the game by Danny Hurst opened up the scoring, sprinting 60m to score the first try of the match.
Cameron Haigh added the conversion to give Honley a 6 point to nil lead. However Sirius reacted well piling on the pressure scoring five tries in the first half with four conversions.
Prolonged attacking play from Honley created a number of scoring opportunities, which were unfortunately unsuccessful. As a result the half time score saw Sirius open up a huge lead of 28 to 6.
After their slow start, Honely began the second half fighting back scoring four tries, but failed to capitalise with only one conversion.
Particular mention to Elliot Morris, who crossed the line twice in quick succession to narrow Sirius’s lead.
Sirius’s strong defence paid off in the end with the final score 34 to Sirius and Honley 24.
Sirius will face a strong St Benedicts side in the National final, which will be held on Wed 9th May at Odsal, Bradford. The Boys finals will also be played alongside the National College and Year 11 Girls Final.
