The RFL has agreed a continued partnership Engage Mutual that will see the former Super League sponsors’ logo carried on the shirts of Super League and community game referees.

The arrangement is part of a comprehensive package of initiatives with the Yorkshire-based financial services mutual and forms the next phase of their involvement with the sport.

Engage Mutual will focus on a commitment to community Rugby League, whilst continuing to maintain a strong presence at the highest level of the game.

Starting at this weekend’s Easter fixtures, Engage Mutual will be the Match Officials’ sponsor, which will see the return of the Engage Mutual logo on all Super League referees’ shirts and, as part of this deal, they will also support community referees.

For the second year, they will also be repeating their ‘engage with your club’ initiative which aims to inspire and support grassroots clubs in holding volunteer action weekends to improve their facilities.

Working alongside the Rugby League Foundation, 2012’s campaign will launch at the end of April, with the aim of involving 100 clubs in the initiative which proved extremely successful in its inaugural year.

“It’s terrific news that Engage Mutual have agreed to extend their partnership and we look forward to developing our working relationship over the next few years,” said RFL Chief Executive Nigel Wood.

“The importance of shared values is reflected in this arrangement which will see Engage Mutual involved at both elite and community levels.”

Engage Mutual Chief Executive Andrew Haigh said: “Our seven years as title sponsor were extremely successful in raising awareness of the Engage Mutual brand, and importantly, we were welcomed in to a sport which shared our focus on the community and family values.

“It is these shared values that have inspired us to continue a partnership with the game, and we can now take the social impact of our involvement to a new level and hope to bring real focus to supporting the community and those involved in the game.”

Earlier this year, Engage Mutual also extended their commitment as main sponsor of rugby league charity The Steve Prescott Foundation.

The Foundation raises funds for Try Assist, the rugby league’s benevolent fund, and The Christie cancer hospital, through inspirational events fronted by ex-player Steve Prescott MBE.
