Carnegie Champion Schools to culminate at Odsal

The 2012 Carnegie Champion Schools national finals will take place at Odsal Stadium, Bradford, on Thursday August 23.
The competition has seen expansion across England and Wales this year; over 50 per cent of all Yorkshire schools are now playing in the competition and for the first time the South West region have entered a team in all year groups from Years 7 to 11.
The Year 7 boys’ final and pitch parade for all finalists will take place around the Carnegie Challenge Cup Final at Wembley Stadium on August 25 but the other finals have been moved from London this year due to the Olympics and the unavailability of sports facilities.
RFL Director of Participation David Gent said: “The competition is a great spectacle for anyone taking part in Rugby League and having travelled to various regions watching games this year it is evident that the standard of play continues to improve.
“I would like to thank all volunteers and the RFL staff involved in the Carnegie Champion Schools tournament for the time and effort they put organising the competition.
“Equally, I would like to say a huge thank you to all schools and teachers who support this tournament, their continued commitment over the years is something we are very thankful for.”
The boys’ Year 7 -11 national stages of the competition are now underway and the girls’ local and regional stages have just started.
History has been made in the North West this season with St Peters becoming the first school to qualify a team to the national stages in every year group.
