Rugby League to GO GOLD in Leicestershire and Rutland
Six aspiring Rugby League players are celebrating after being awarded a grant of £300 each by Leicestershire and Rutland County Sports Partnership’s GO GOLD Talented Athlete Fund.
Dylan Lewis Bale, Oliver Wakeling, Lewis Chapman, Jason Bass, Akshaye Vig and Ben Gray are all registered players on the RFL’s Midlands Scholarship programme, which sees the players take part in training and match play opportunities that mirror the experience they would receive at a Super League club scholarship programme.
The aim of GO GOLD is to support talented young athletes in full-time education who are currently performing at regional or above in their sport, including those athletes who are being recognised by their National Governing Bodies as being our future Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth athletes and potential medal winners.
The players will be able to utilise the funding for purchasing playing equipment and to contribute towards their travel expenses for accessing the programme.
“We’re delighted that these players are in receipt of an award from the GO GOLD fund” said David Butler, the RFL’s Regional Manager. “The awards represent an additional £1800 investment into our game and I know that in these challenging times, the families of these players will appreciate the extra support towards the high costs of being a performance Rugby League player.
“On behalf of all the players and everyone involved in the game, I would like to thank Leicestershire and Rutland CSP for their ongoing support of both the players and Rugby League in the county.”
