Newham Dockers RLC Launch With Juniors Event
Last Thursday saw Memorial Park’s newest Rugby League club Newham Dockers launch their upcoming summer season with a free taster event for children during half term.
The club, which is supported by Hard Rock Cafe and the Mayor of London, start their season on the first Saturday in March and signs are promising for the season ahead.
London Broncos Community Coach Chris Williams said: “Having seen the natural ability of the kids on display here today, I expect the Dockers will give some of the established clubs a real run for their money.”
The event was supported by Newham-based trust Community Links and Youth Sports Manager, Jason Turner, who added: “Football has such a huge profile in our community and we do produce some great players, but it is great to see youngsters giving Rugby League a go and the smiles on the faces suggest that they will be back to play more.”
The Dockers are set to run 2012 league teams at under-12s, under-14s as well as a first grade team. The club will also run teams playing friendly fixtures at under-16s and mini Rugby League for players aged 11 and under. Junior training is on Wednesday evenings from 4.30pm whilst fixtures are played on Saturdays from March.
