SRL Super 8 side Gloucestershire pulled off the win of the competition so far as they defeated Rochdale Mayfield 33-14.

Mayfield – who play their trade in the National Conference League – had home advantage but fell behind as early as the fifth minute as centre Phil Cowburn strode clear, before the students went further ahead with 12 minutes on the clock as loose forward Rory Sharratt forced his way over.

The hosts did rally and by half time had actually hit the front thanks to tries from Ben Simpson and Carl Abraham and a conversion to full-back Ian Higgs.

However, within three minutes of the second half the students were ahead again as centre James Greene and winger James Gahan raced in as the visitors took control once again.

Mayfield responded with a Sean Snape touchdown, but that proved to be as good as it got for Mayfield as the final quarter belonged to the students.

Cowburn’s second try, and a penalty and conversion from Bradley, put the game well and truly to bed, before a Jordan Rice drop goal and converted score from Matt Flander sealed an historic win.

The All Golds cup run will now see them make the long journey to Cumbria where they will face Millom.
