Crabtree ready for Wolves

Huddersfield Giants forward Eorl Crabtree is confident his side can maintain their sparkling start to the season against last year’s league leaders Warrington Wolves at the Galpharm Stadium this evening.

Huddersfield Giants forward Eorl Crabtree is confident his side can maintain their sparkling start to the season against last year’s league leaders Warrington Wolves at the Galpharm Stadium this evening.

The Giants are the early pacesetters in Stobart Super League after winning at Wigan Warriors and then hammering Widnes Vikings, against whom exciting threequarters Leroy Cudjoe and Luke George scored seven tries between them.

That new cutting edge is another reason for Crabtree feeling he is able to ignore the result of the last meeting between the two sides, when the rampant Wolves thrashed his team 47-0 in the 2011 play-offs.

“For me, I couldn’t care less about that result,” said the England prop, who will be making the 300th appearance of his career this evening. “It’s a new season.

“It’s a great feeling knowing we’ve won a couple of games. We’ve grown in confidence.

“It’s going to be a tough game but so was Wigan and we did a good job there.

“It’s going to be physical but we have added a new dimension to our game, which is out wide.

“The players that have come on there, like Leroy and Luke George, have been sensational. Hopefully we can get the ball to them and keep doing what we’ve been doing well.”

Warrington winger Rhys Evans says his team will also be taking little notice of the last match between the clubs as they battle for top spot after three rounds.

“They’ve got new players and we’ve got new players, it’s the start of a new season,” said Evans. “I think they’ll just be looking to keep their run going.

“They’ve done really well. Beating Wigan at Wigan was a really good first game for them, especially with the injuries they’ve had.

“We know it’s going to be tough game, especially at their own ground, which is quite a formidable place. I do enjoy playing there but it’s a tough place to go.”
