Siddal cruise through round two contest

Siddal took the spoils in an all-National Conference League clash against Leigh East after a comfortable 28-10 success.
On a day when the cold weather ruled out all the other round two ties Leigh were able to switch the game from their main pitch to the neighbouring 3G at the Leigh Sports Village, however, it was the Halifax-based visitors who made the most of the opportunity to get the game on.
Centre James Noon collected a high kick to give the home club an early lead, although it didn’t take Siddal long to get themselves back into the contest as winger Dominic Booth went over in the corner.
A Kerrod Schelmes penalty proved to be the only other score of the half and it gave Leigh a slender 8-6 advantage at the interval.
Just six minutes had gone in the second half before Chris Brooke placed a neat kick through for Matthew Batley to pounce, and that proved to be the signal for Siddal to take control as further efforts from stand-off Brooke, Gareth Blackburn and Chris Groghan saw them run out comfortable winners.
With all other ties frozen off the sides will try again this coming weekend.
