Leeds Met Carnegie University followed up their impressive opening day win over Northumbria University with another big victory at home over Edge Hill University.

The current champions triumphed 52-8 and will travel down to Gloucester’s Prince of Wales Stadium next Wednesday full of confidence.

Gloucester University All Golds were losing 14-10 at home against Loughborough University when their game unfortunately had to be abandoned in the 52nd minute due to a power cut and this game will now be re-arranged for later in the season.

The match which was in memory of Frank Rice, the father of Gloucester University Hooker, Jordan Rice who died earlier this year saw some sloppy penalties early on, but once settled, some brilliant breaks and defences from both sides.

The half time score was 10-10 highlighting the evenness of the contest.

Another closely fought contest saw Hull University posting a narrow 28-26 victory at home to North East rivals Northumbria University despite a hat-trick from Northumbria’s Will Bate.

The visitors raced into a 12-0 lead before being pegged back by a converted try from Hull’s Tom Lineman before half time.

Hull then levelled the contest early in the second half before gaining a lead they were never going to lose thanks to tries from Tom Lineham, Rob Svenson, Sean Carmody, Rich Holmes and Sam Swire.

Northumbria University kept snapping at their heels before a game breaking play by Sam Swire with a one-on-one ball steal 10 metres out which saw him scoring under the posts to put Hull more than a converted try up with time running out.

Elsewhere St Mary’s University also picked up an impressive win on the road triumphing 40-18 over UCLAN in Preston.
