Leeds Rhinos hooker Danny Buderus will bow out of Engage Super League with an appearance in the Grand Final next Saturday after revealing he is to return to Newcastle Knights next year.

The 33-year-old former Australia international is being released from the last year of his contract to enable him to finish his career with his old club under new coach Wayne Bennett.

Buderus, who is in his third season at Headingley, made the announcement after helping the Rhinos to a 26-24 victory over Warrington Wolves in a gripping qualifying semi-final at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

"It's been going on for a while behind closed doors and I've got to give thanks to the Rhinos for their patience and for allowing me to finish off my career at my hometown club," Buderus said.

"They've wished me well which is great. To go home with an appearance at Old Trafford is a dream script.

"But we want to go there and win it. We've got some momentum and that makes us a dangerous team.

"I've enjoyed everything about the Rhinos and my English experience and to finish on this note will put me in good stead for the next couple of years of my career."

Buderus got his chance of a fairytale finish after Leeds became the first club from outside the top three to reach the Grand Final.

They needed a penalty goal from captain Kevin Sinfield with under two minutes left of a pulsating contest to secure the most dramatic of victories and will meet Wigan Warriors or St Helens at Old Trafford next Saturday.
