The Rugby League Conference West of England Final on Sunday proved to be a family affair for the Wootton Bassett based Hayes family.

The Final at Sandyleaze in Gloucester which saw Gloucestershire Warriors beat Swindon St George 68-10 was refereed by Darren Hayes with help from his two sons, Jonathan and Nathan, who were the Touch Judges.

Darren Hayes said: “We work well together as a team of Match Officials on the field and it makes communication very easy as they know what I’m looking for.

“I’ve been refereeing for six years now and we’ve covered a few games together before but never a big final like this.

“Jonathan has been refereeing for five years and was voted junior referee of the London society last year whilst Nathan has been a touch judge for four years.

The family moved from Widnes to Wootton Bassett five years ago and Darren’s wife Stacey is also involved in Rugby League and helps with appointment Match Officials for North West Counties Junior & Youth and London and the south.

Many opportunities exist in Rugby League for Match Officials of all ages and abilities, to find out more information visit: http://www.therfl.co.uk/referee
