Ellis joins Wildcats

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have made Harlequins RL hooker Andy Ellis their first major signing since being handed a new Super League licence.

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have made Harlequins RL hooker Andy Ellis their first major signing since being handed a new Engage Super League licence.

The 26-year-old Ellis, who played in the National League for Hull KR and Barrow before joining Harlequins two years ago, has signed a three-year contract with the Wildcats.

Ellis missed the first half of last season with a shoulder injury but has played in each of the Londoners’ last 38 league and cup matches.

Wakefield chief executive James Elston said: “Andy is a great signing for us. His experience in the hooking role will be an asset to the side next year and his ability to cross over the line will be a further boost.”

Ellis said: “With the fantastic Super League news last week, there really is a sense of a start of something new at the club and I’m delighted to be a part of that.

“I can’t wait to begin training with the team in the pre-season and begin this new challenge. I’m confident that Wakefield are a team that will go far next year.”

The Wildcats, who gained a surprise reprieve last week when Crusaders RL withdrew their Super League licence application, say they plan to announce more signings later this week.
