Hosting the 2012 Olympics in London next year will put the spotlight on sport in the UK, so the RFL are pleased to be supporting an initiative to create a grassroots sporting legacy to protect facilities and increase participation.

The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge -operated by national charity Fields in Trust and led by The Duke of Cambridge – aims to permanently protect 2012 playing fields and outdoor spaces by 2012 as a tribute to the Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 Olympics.

Available local facilities are central to the success of grassroots Rugby League and so we’re working with Fields in Trust to encourage clubs join in the programme.

Fields in Trust has a network of regional managers (listed below) who will undertake all negotiations with landowners to legally protect the sites.

Fields in Trust work with protected sites over the long term to ensure that the best deal for sport can be achieved and so there is always an element of flexibility built in to this form of protection.
