York City Knights have made a new signing ahead of the new school year, in Emma Sellers. Emma has recently graduated from her degree in Sport Development and Physical Education and hopes to apply all her knowledge and expertise to her new post appointed with us as the Volunteer Sports Coordinator targeting 14 – 16 years. The programme is currently being developed by Emma and she hopes to have it rolled out in the schools after the summer holidays in September 2010.

The programme aims to recruit volunteers from secondary schools in York and provide young people with knowledge, skills, training, development and education associated with sports volunteering, for example, how to be a good coach, health and safety, planning and management, child protection, and event organisation over a six week programme. Throughout the programme the pupils will liaise with the volunteer sports coordinator on their sport of interest and links can be facilitated to provide pupils with a volunteering opportunity using the necessary pathways required.

Emma will also help the Knights Development team, having previously worked for them herself, as the Cheerleading Co-ordinator delivering courses for children to experience fun ways to keep active and have fun in an environment full of cheer. This has contributed to lifting participation levels in and across the Yorkshire area targeting girls in primary schools.

Emma has a wealth of knowledge and experience in sport, health and fitness, leisure and physical education.

Emma worked as an advanced health and fitness instructor in the community delivering functional exercise programmes, sport and fitness workouts and training for all populations and has delivered advice and support for children, families and the general public on aspects of leading healthy lifestyles from; nutrition to physical activity to psychology, rehabilitation and sport specific training and may other areas.

Emma is hoping to become a key member of the York City Knights team throughout North Yorkshire in her time at the club. To find out more about Emma and the rest of the York City Knights Community team please visit the Knights' new Community website on www.yckfoundation.com
