Co-op announces search for Biggest Fan

The Co-operative is on the search for Rugby League’s biggest fan, with nominations open for the 2010 Co-operative ‘Fan of the Year’. Co-operative ambassador Paul Sculthorpe is behind the campaign and will be helping The Co-operative to find the most dedicated fan in the country who demonstrates loyalty to both their club and the sport.
A panel of judges will assess a range of criteria ranging from match day attendance, their contribution to the sport or club, their passion for the sport, and those that have ‘gone the extra mile’ to promote the game within their community.
The ‘Fan of the Year’ will be announced in the run up to Finals day and presented to the crowd on the pitch at the Co-operative Championships Grand Final on Sunday 26th September where they will receive their trophy and acknowledgement from the crowd.
Co-operative ‘Good for Everyone’ ambassador Paul Sculthorpe said: “I have no doubt that there will be hundreds of quality entries this year for the 2010 Co-operative Championships ‘Fan of the Year.’
“I am looking forward to assessing the nominations and being part of the search. I have met some dedicated fans over the years, so I have no doubt that competition will be fierce.”
Martin Brooks, the 2009 ‘Fan of The Year’ and life-long Sheffield Eagles supporter was rewarded in front of over 11,000 people at last year’s Co-operative Championships Finals Day at the Halliwell Jones stadium in Warrington.
Liz Matkin, The Co-operative Group’s Head of Sponsorship, commented: “This initiative sees us rewarding fans for their commitment to the Co-operative Championships. We hope to find the most dedicated fan – not just to their club but someone who is devoted to the sport and the community spirit that underpins the game.”
