Oldham forge new partnership
Oldham Roughyeds are delighted to announce that they have forged a new business partnership with local firm AMP Wire of Chadderton, one of Europe's most prolific suppliers of wire products.
As part of the link-up, the company are supplying and fitting several gates at the club's new Whitebank Stadium ground, including main gates into the eight-acre complex, as well as sponsoring the dug-outs and the Oldham team's goalkicker.
"We have also told the club we will help in any other way we can while they are getting established at Whitebank," said AMP Wire's managing director Pam Pelham when the new main gates were formally handed over to the club yesterday (Tues).
They were specially made by Roughyeds fan Pete Mellor, a supervisor and fabricator at AMP for whom he has worked for the last 12 years.
Said Pete: "As a keen Oldham supporter I love the set-up at Whitebank. The potential is enormous. I'm sure that in a year or two the ground will be unrecognisable from what it is today."
It was Pete who approached his employer and asked if the company would support the Roughyeds in their Whitebank adventure.
"We were delighted to become involved," said Pam, a mechanical engineer and a member of both the Oldham Business Leadership Group and Oldham Women in Business.
The Leadership Group is a 14-member body of local business owners who advise Oldham Council and the local regeneration body Oldham Partnership on matters of economic policy.
Pam's role in Women in Business is to mentor new businesses in the borough that might require help and support.
She launched her own company 20 years ago in her father's garage and now it is one of the UK's leading specialists in wire mesh products.
She added: "I used to play rugby league for the Rochdale Ravens women's team so I do have an affinity with the game. I think it is absolutely fantastic that Roughyeds are now getting their own permanent home in the borough where supporters and players alike can really feel that they are at home.
"We wish the Roughyeds well in their brand-new start in Oldham. These are exciting times for the club and AMP Wire is delighted to be in at the start of it and to be backing Roughyeds all the way."
Rachael Marsters, the Roughyeds' commercial manager, said the club was proud and privileged to have the support of another local company at a time when Roughyeds were taking a giant leap forward.
"As a club we are all about 'Oldham' and it is hugely encouraging to find Oldham companies so supportive of the Oldham club," she said. "We are extremely grateful to AMP Wire for their backing on various fronts and trust that the partership will be of mutual benefit."
