Clark: ‘We want to take it to the next level’
Barrow coach Dave Clark has urged the Raiders to build on their first placed finish when they meet Halifax in The Co-operative Championship Grand Final at The Halliwell Jones Stadium this Sunday.
Clark is determined to avoid a repeat performance of the 34-18 Northern Rail Cup Final defeat against Widnes in July and believes that a victory this weekend will be the ideal way to finish the season.
“It would be a fantastic achievement to win the Grand Final,” said Clark. “We’ve achieved a lot already in finishing top of the league, and to reach a second final of the year is a testament to the efforts of the players and the chairman Des Johnston have put into this club.
“What we’ve done so far is fantastic but now we want to take it to the next level and actually win some silverware.”
The Barrow coach thinks that missing out in the Northern Rail Cup will provide an added incentive when they face Halifax, a side who they beat 35-12 to reach Finals Day at Warrington.
Clark said: “I think everyone learns a lot from big games. I think we know a few areas where we’ll do things differently, and hopefully we’ll go one better this time.
“In play-off football you see players go the extra mile. But that can go for and against you. They know they’ve got one opportunity to perform. But the trick is to play your normal game and not to be too psyched up for it.”
