York City Knights are pleased to announce the signing of 19 year old Hunslet half back Jonathan Schofield. Schofield, son of former Leeds and Great Britain star Gary, joins the club with immediate effect and will give  the Knights other options and cover in the half back and fullback positions.

Commenting on his latest acquisition Knights Director of Rugby James Ratcliffe said; "We are pleased to have Jonathan on board. After seeing him play for Hunslet reserves on Friday night I am very surprised that he has only made one first team appearance. He is very quick, has good vision and an excellent kicking game. He is also an outstanding goal kicker and he will give us a boost as we approach the business end of the season".

Schofield will link up with his new teamates at training this evening (Tuesday) but will be unavailable for next weeks televised match with Oldham as he is attending his sisters wedding. He will be in contention for the away trip to Blackpool on the 5th July.

The Knights have also signed 17 year old reserve grade star Tom Lineham on a professional contract. Lineham has been outstanding form for the reserves this season despite only taking up Rugby League in September when he started at York College.

Knights General Manager Ian Wilson was delighted with the clubs latest recruits; "Jonathan will add competition for places for the remainder of this season and also will be a great acquisition for 2010. Quality half backs are hard to find and I'm sure that Jonathan will prove to be a great signing. Anyone that has seen Tom Lineham play for the reserves this season will know that he has outstanding potential.

He has all the attributes to become an outstanding Rugby League player and I have no doubt that we will see him in the first team in the not too distant future".
