The London Skolars Rugby League side notched up the first win of the season away to Cumbrian side, Workington Town last Sunday.

After starting the Co-operative Championship 1 Rugby League competition with 6 consecutive defeats, the win has injected self belief and enthusiasm into the team.

Head Coach Callum Irving commented, “It was great to get the win up in Cumbria, you could see the relief and joy on the boys faces as the hooter went. It was a tough fight up there and the conditions didn't make for an attractive game but we stuck rigidly to our principles and out enthused a pretty decent team”

“We need to work even harder at training this week in order to produce a similarly enthusiastic performance against York, we've proved a team of Londoners can defend and win in this competition, but showing it once is not enough”

London Skolars Captain Paul Thorman added, “The performance on Sunday was a culmination of all the hard work put in since last November. We all knew we were good enough, we just needed to fine tune our execution.

“The boy’s always knew we had that performance in us and with that performance came the result.”

The Skolars will be looking for back to back wins when the club hosts the York City Knights this Sunday, May the 24th, 2pm kickoff at White Hart Lane Community Sports Centre.

The London Skolars featured 11 Londoners in the win against Workington. The Skolars victory was a testimony to the faith in the local players as the club look to be less reliant on imports.

London Skolars Director Hector McNeil added, “I’m really happy about the victory. We were 200 to 1 odds to win this fixture. This proves we can beat any team on our day. Now we need to go from strength to strength, starting with a solid performance on Sunday”
