BARA Managing Director, Ikram Butt recently flew to Jamaica with former professional rugby league player Steve Pryce and Peter Tate, Board Director of Bradford Youth Development Partnership in order to spend time in Jamaica as rugby league continues to prosper on the Caribbean island.
Butt stated ‘The visit to Jamaica was integral to BARA’s objectives in developing the sport of rugby within the ethnic minority communities and creating opportunities into main stream sport. “Assisting in the development of the sport in Jamaica will undoubtedly have positive knock on effects over here in the UK as well as addressing some of the key social issues that exist within our communities,’ added Ikram
Steve Pryce, assistant coach for Jamaica, added ‘The visit to Jamaica was very encouraging and I am very proud to be given the opportunity to coach the national team of my mother country. “Ikram and I teamed up with Dean Thomas, Jamaica’s Head Coach and Kevin Rudd, European Executive Officer to play a part in establishing Jamaica on the rugby league map.
