How do I apply for a coaching course?

You need to contact the dedicated RFL booking line on 0113 2015464 or log on to the Course Booking Website for available course details.

Complete the application form and return to:
RFL Administration
C/O Coachwise Limited
Chelsea Close, Off Amberley Road,
Armley
Leeds
LS12 4HP

You should attach to this a passport photo and payment. You will only be booked on a course if you have sent in all these requirements. Any applications received without these requirements will be returned to you.

I want to coach under 8’s. What qualification do I need?

As a minimum standard you would need a Level 1 qualification and ideally, work towards gaining your Level 2.

I want to coach my local pub team. What qualification do I need?

The standard qualification for the open age game is a Level 2.

I’m a qualified coach. How do I keep my qualification up to date?

Once you have gained the minimum standard qualification for the environment in which you are coaching, its important that you keep the licence that accompanies the qualification certificate current and up to date. You can do this by attending various workshops and events aimed at developing coaching skills. Further details can be found on the STEPS and coach development section.

If you have any questions not answered on this page please email your query to coaching@rfl.uk.com. For any other queries or for more information please contact the RFL on 0113 237 5010.

What do I do if I can't attend a course date?

You'll need to call us on 0113 2015464 and let us know asap. You may be able to transfer to another course (there is a £45 transfer fee). If you cancel five weeks before the start of the course you may be able to get a refund. Please remember, before you book onto a course ensure that you are available for all dates of the course.

Why should I attend CPD?

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) workshops have been designed following feedback from coaches and cover topics that coaches have identified they would like further information on. CPD should help you to improve the coaching you provide for your players.

How do I book on a CPD?

You can book on a CPD by calling 0113 201 5464 or go to the Course Booking Website.

How long is a workshop?

Workshops will last for approximately three hours and usually evening workshops are 6.30pm-9.30pm whilst those at weekends will run either 9.30am-12.30pm or 1.30pm-4.30pm.

What does a workshop cost?

Workshops are £15 for each coach attending.

How does this affect my coaching licence?

Your coaching licence can only be renewed by:

  1. Attending one of the CPD workshops organised in conjunction with the leagues.
  2. Attending a STEPS workshop.
  3. Attending a RFL endorsed workshop.

How long will my licence be extended for?

Your licence will be extended until December 2014.

Why should I do a CPD now and not at the end of the year?

If you do a CPD now or at the end of the year your licence will be extended until December 2014. However if you do it now you will be able to put any new ideas into practice this season and you won’t have to worry about fitting it in at the end of the year.

If I can't do my CPD now what other chances will I have?

Currently we plan to run three opportunities for CPD with the leagues - one at the start of the season, mid-season and at the end of the season. There will also be STEPS courses available in your region and professional clubs as well as other organisations can apply to have their workshop endorsed by the RFL.
