Kids Go Free

The Co-operative and The Rugby Football League have announced that kids will be able to go free to this year’s Co-operative Championships Finals Day.

The KIDS GO FREE initiative, which was launched at the beginning of the season, and has enabled hundreds of children under 16 to attend matches during the holidays free of charge, will extend to the Finals Day at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, Warrington on 2nd October.

The scheme followed research commissioned by The Co-operative which showed that family time has taken a hit during the economic crisis, as families have less disposable income to spend on family outings than they did two years ago.  Both parties launched the initiative to ease the burden on families during these tough times.

The Co-operative Championships Finals Day will be packed full of family fun, with a designated area for families in the stands with freebies and entertainment all day long, as well as a Co-operative trailer featuring free food samples.

Celebrity Rugby League fans have pledged their support for the initiative including comedian Johnny Vegas, cricketers Graeme Swann and Ryan Sidebottom, actress Lucy-Jo Hudson and Rugby League legends Paul Sculthorpe and Martin Offiah.

“The concept of kids going free to games is fantastic.  The more children exposed to the game the better, and to be able to help out families during these hard times is a positive thing,” said former GB captain and two times man of Steel winner Paul Sculthorpe.
