Brian McClennan has named a strong squad for the inaugural Carnegie Floodlit Nines that takes place at Headingley Carnegie this Wednesday.
The Rhinos are hoping to win the floodlit competition and have named a 13 man squad that includes nine players who have featured in the engage Super League competition this year.
Jordan Tansey, who made his 50th appearance for the Rhinos in their 52-16 win over Wigan last Friday, is included as is French international Eric Anselme.
The squad is captained by Simon Worrall whilst young stars Ben Jones-Bishop, Kallum Watkins, Danny Allan and Ben Kaye will be looking to put on a show for the crowds at the feast of rugby on Wednesday night.
Young centre Jodie Broughton returns to the Rhinos camp from a loan spell at Hull FC and immediately joins up with the Carnegie Floodlit Nines squad.
Leeds face Huddersfield in their first match which is the second game of the night after sponsors Leeds Metropolitan University take on the British Army in the opening clash of the evening, kick off 6.10pm.
Commenting on the squad Head Coach Brian McClennan said, “This is an exciting group of players who will hopefully give the crowd something to cheer about on Wednesday night.
We go into every competition wanting to be as successful as possible and the Carnegie Floodlit Nines is no exception. Anyone who has seen the likes of Kallum Watkins and Ben Jones-Bishop in Super League this year knows that our young players have tremendous potential and it will be great to see them compete in a competition format likes this.”
Chief Executive Gary Hetherington added, “The Carnegie Floodlit Nines is a fantastic concept and our aim is to win the title, especially with it being at our home ground. It will be a fantastic night of entertainment and I am sure the Leeds fans will be there in numbers to support their team.”
Ticket prices for the event are £10. Children under 16 will gain free admission when accompanied by a full paying adult. Admission can be made via the turnstile on the night or in advance from the Headingley Carnegie Ticket Office on 08700 60 60 50 or www.floodlit9s.co.uk
