What Are Service Areas?

Development Groups - defined by local authority or sports partnership boundaries depending on their geographical location. 

 

Purpose

Each Service Area is managed by a steering group at which all Rugby League agencies in the area and other appropriate partners are represented. The group will normally elect its co-ordinator and will manage designated Rugby League activity. In some cases, the Service Area Coordinator may be employed full time by the Local Authority.Action Groups are sub groups of the Service Area, which deal with specific issued such as the development of Women & Girls Rugby League.  Each member of the steering group will report back to their action group.

 

Why Service Areas?

  • Local forum for all Rugby League agencies to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas.
  • Aim to give ownership to all elements of the Rugby League Community.
  • Conceptually correct - Recognised as good practice  by Sport England.
  • Vehicle for the delivery of national development initiatives such as ActiveSports, TOPs, Coach Education, Match Official, facilities strategy, volunteerstrategy.
  • Based on recognised boundaries i.e. Local Authority or County SportsPartnership.
  • Successfully established in many areas.
  • Recruitment of New Volunteers.
  • Creates funding opportunities - Awards for all, local grants etc.
  • A structured selection and development pathway to achieve the fullpotential of players and coaches.
  • The first major step on to the World Class Programme enabling Initial Talent Identification and preparation of players, coaches and teams in the games representative programme.
