The RFL has teamed up with the British and Irish Rugby charity Wooden Spoon to help physically, mentally and socially disadvantaged children and young people in the local communities.
Established in 1983, Wooden Spoon is a national charity that has raised more than £15 million for over 500,000 disadvantaged children and young people through challenges golf days and corporate dinners.
Richard Lewis, the RFL’s Executive Chairman, said: “We are delighted to link up with Wooden Spoon and through our partnership I hope we can raise lots of money for worthy causes.
Although the funds raised by Wooden Spoon do not always go back into rugby based projects, the charity in recent years has helped fund initiatives at Featherstone Rovers, Wakefield Wildcats, Hull KR and Leeds Rhinos.
Richard Smith, Yorkshire Chairman of Wooden Spoon, said: “We‘re always looking for new partners and are delighted to have joined forces with the RFL. Hopefully this will help us raise the profile of the charity in Yorkshire and generate extra funds which will help benefit children and young people.”
The partnership was launched with the RFL in the presence of the Great Britain Rugby League squad as they prepared for the Frontline Test match against France.
